Images from the Glen McLaughlin Collection of California as an Island maps, a collection of nearly 750 maps obtained by Mr. McLaughlin over nearly 40 years. Included in the collection are hemisphere and world maps, celestial charts, title pages, globe gores and a medal. The dates range from 1622 to the mid-1800's.

- Wood block print or copperplate engraved (authorities disagree). California with indented northern coast and interior mountains in northern half. East Red Sea shown to California's east, Great East Ocean to its west,and California Sea near its western shore. Antarctica and Australia are shown as possibly joined and are named Magellanica. Eastern half of Australia is omitted. Text, in Japanese, on geographical zones surround map, with top right to left: Introduction, Europe, N. America, S. America, Magellanica; and bottom rightto left: (in Chinese?), Asia, Africa. Stated within block (top left) are 5 named land masses; 6 if Magellanica is counted. Map legend included (bottom left).
