The "alternative" rewritings of the Trojan myth by Dictys and Dares are among the most interesting and mysterious works of Late Antiquity: yet it is only recently that they have started getting due attention, and many issues about them still remain unsolved. This is one of the first books that relies on contributions by several scholars to comprehensively cover this subject in its various aspects, from the delicate question of (true or supposed) Greek models to cultural context, expected audience, intertextuality, structural patterns, narrative technique, themes, characters, aims, up to style and language. What emerges is a fuller and partly new view of the two works.

Wie ieht poetologisches Denken in augusteischer Zeit aus, was sind seine Themen, Motive und Akteure? Das Nachdenken darüber, was Dichtung ist, wie sie entsteht und nach welchen Kriterien sie zu beurteilen ist, genießt in der augusteischen Literatur einen hohen Stellenwert und manifestiert sich vornehmlich in den Dichtwerken selbst; beides ist an Horaz? Ars poetica deutlich abzulesen. Doch poetologische Reflexion prägt auch andere Werke der Epoche. 0Die vorliegende Studie untersucht die zahlreichen Künstlerfiguren, die sich vor allem bei Vergil und Ovid finden, und betrachtet ihr Handeln als ästhetische Reflexionsfiguren des poetischen Prozesses. Unter ihnen sind die Sänger Orpheus, Arion, Iopas, Cretheus, Daphnis, Menalcas und Mopsus, die Instrumentalmusiker Misenus, Marsyas und Pan, der Bildhauer Pygmalion, der Werkmeister Daedalus und sein Neffe Perdix sowie ? als eine der wenigen, aber durchaus vorhandenen weiblichen Figuren ? die Weberin Arachne. Durch die Analyse dieser Künstlerfiguren erschließt die Arbeit eine neue Perspektive auf die poetologischen Diskurse der augusteischen Zeit

"Man kennt Kepler (* Weil der Stadt 1571, † Regensburg 1630) als Astronomen, der die Gesetze der Planetenbewegung erkannt hat, als Mathematiker und als Optiker, dem wir das Keplersche Fernrohr verdanken. Weniger geläufig ist Kepler als Dichter. Aber gleich das erste astronomische Werk des Vierundzwanzigjährigen, das "Mysterium Cosmographicum", beginnt mit zwei kurzen Gedichten und endet mit einem Hymnus auf Gott als Schöpfer der Welt in 32 Hexametern. Schon aus der Studienzeit kennen wir 13 Gedichte zu Hochzeiten, Magisterpromotionen und anderen Gelegenheiten. Keplers Dichten setzt sich fast bis zum Tod fort. Seine Gedichte sind oft originell, eini-ge zeigen seinen Humor und seine Spottlust. Viele Gelehrte der Frühen Neuzeit schrieben Gedichte in der Sprache der Wissenschaft, in Latein. Auch Keplers Gedichte sind fast ausnahmslos lateinisch geschrieben. In die-ser Ausgabe ist den lateinischen Texten eine deutsche Übersetzung im Versmaß des Originals gegenübergestellt. Ein ausführlicher Kommentar interpretiert die Gedichte und informiert über historische Hintergründe, erklärt schwer verständliche Stellen und bietet knappe biographische Angaben zu den angesprochenen Personen."--Back cover.
