"Le triangle amoureux fait partie intégrante de la définition structurelle et de la syntaxe de la comédie hollywoodienne classique des années 1930:1940. À partir de cette hypothèse, nous tentons d'abord de souligner les sources théâtrales (de ShakeSpeare au théâtre satirique anglais en passant. par le vaudeville) puis l'importance de cette convention dramatique et de ses déclinaisons narratives dans la construction du récit, la mise en scène et la promotion des comédies hollywoodiennes, d'Ernst Lubitsch à Preston Sturges en passant par George Cukor, Howard Hawks ou Leo McCarey. Ensuite, en ayant recours à la théorie du désir mimétique et triangulaire de René Girard, nous relevons la manière dont la comédie fait état des diverses expressions du désir chez les héros comiques.
