- Summary
-
Political scientist Post argues that the Europe that is now being united was originally the product of the French Revolution in 1789-95, and was then formed by the emergent industrial capitalism. He explains that the further revolution of the new working class feared by industrial capitalists did not transpire because the working classes were incorporated as part of the dynamics of capitalist development. The communist prediction of revolution he attributes to the failed upsurges of 1848-49.

- Summary
-
This book examines the "turn to the East" by the international communist movement in fostering world revolution after the success in Russia in 1917, which led to communist victories in China, Vietnam and Cuba after the Second World War. Based on a theorization of the building of revolutionary movements, this study critically assesses communist strategy and tactics using three key cases: China, India, and Brazil. While examining the foundations of what was, in fact, a historic turn not foreseen by Marx and Engels, it draws out implications for possible future developments in less-developed countries.
