First published in 1976, this beautiful, interactive collaboration is a unique work of book art in which Marisol's monumental pop-art sculptures face the blocks of Creeley's prose poems. The new introduction by Creeley scholar Stephen Fredman describes how the poet's autobiographical prose poetry arose in conversation with images of Marisol's equally autobiographical sculptures. In addition to the introduction, this edition features an appendix of newly discovered material, much of it found in Creeley's own copy of the original edition of Presences. These include postcards and letters from Marisol, designer William Katz (who brought the poet and artist together), Mexican poet Octavio Paz, and several university professors. The material in the appendix allows the editor to reveal the genesis of Presences as a collaborative work of art involving three creators: artist, designer, and poet.

Over the past quarter of a century or so, Peter Robinson has gained a reputation for his lyric poetry, translations, and critical writings devoted to modern and contemporary verse. "The Lesson" - When I was younger I flew a fighter plane in the First World War. I was tougher than the Red Baron and a master of dogfights above the lines. Soon though my teacher grounded me and began to change things around. 'Write a hundred lines, ' she'd say, over and over again. I followed her command. I guess it must've been something I did or said, I didn't understand at the time. I was just happy doing what she wanted: a close mapping of enemy lines.

"Speakbright Leap Passwood" is a major selection of Ulli Freer's poetry covering more than a decade. The poems have been extracted from eleven major sequences beginning with "Rushlight" and ending with a sample of recent work from "Mobile" and "Redirect." For Freer the titles of these sequences serve as icons to denote a space that is energised, where storm and transcendence translate into poems. The language reflecting an emotional and political resistance to organised systems of knowledge. The writing is that of an outsider, recording a journey of the mismatches between memory and perception. Words break down in this space to reform outside the centres of control and corporate world surveillance. The poems weave improvisation from fragments of order and personal dilemmas that rush through environments of urban decay and Freer's exaggerated landscapes. The writing combines tension of lines with built in rhythms to stress a pulsating speed and meanings borne out of velocity. To gain maximum impact Freer advocates that the poems be read aloud, in order to flatten any barriers or obstructions preventing change.
