"GSMCAD is a Windows 3.1 to Windows 95-compatible computer program developed as part of the 10th generation of the GSMAP family of U.S. Geological Survey computer programs written by Gary I. Selner and Richard B. Taylor (1993). Its primary function is digital compilation of geologic maps. It is intended to greatly increase the ease of use, capabilities, and speed of editing GSMAP format files, and to implement a reasonably seamless connection to the ESRI ARC/INFO geographic information system programs. It continues the GSMAP philosophy of encouraging digital compilation by allowing the geologist to work in his/her own office where notes, samples, air photos, and other reference materials are nearby, and without need of hardwired connections to Unix computers. At the same time it offers many geologists already trained in GSMAP a bridge to the capabilities of ARC/INFO and options to release their data in a variety of widely recognized formats. Digitizing, labeling, placement of symbols, general editing, correcting topology, attributing of lines and symbols, tagging of polygons, and output of page-size figures and draft maps to open-file standards can be efficiently done on GSMCAD. The actual building of polygons, GIS analysis of data, and publication quality output is probably done more efficiently in ARC/INFO, although the GSMAP system does have some of those capabilities."

"This Open-File Report is in response to requests for my programs for simulating ground motions from earthquakes. The programs are based on modifications I have made to the stochastic model first introduced by Hanks and McGuire (1981). The report contains source codes, written in Fortran, and executables that can be used on a PC. Programs are included both for time-domain and for random-vibration simulations. In addition, programs are included to produce Fourier amplitude spectra for the models used in the simulations and to convert shear velocity vs. depth into frequency-dependent amplification. The report contains an improvement in the implementation of the random vibration method not published before."

"This program will read an HPGL plotter command file and transmit the commands to various types of output devices. It will optionally rescale the drawing and transform the coordinates. A drawing may be registered to a basemap mounted in the plotter by using a digitizing sight to identify three registration points marking the upper left, lower left, and lower right corners of the drawing. An HPGL file must be prepared that plots those three points first using exactly the same parameters as the main plot file. The program will also change the size of the plot without registration, for example, a D-size plot may be reproduced on a page-size laser-jet. Pen color, width, and gray tone can be set for output to some raster devices."

"This report provides diskettes containing the FORTRAN source code and ancillary data files for MODPATH and MODPATH-PLOT, a particle tracking post-processing package for the U. S. Geological Survey finite-difference ground-water flow model commonly known as MODFLOW. The source code provided in this report refers to version 3.0 of MODPATH/MODPATH-PLOT, which is documented in detail in a separate report ("User's Guide for MODPATH/MODPATHPLOT, Version 3: A particle tracking post-processing package for MODFLOW, the U. S. Geological Survey finite-difference ground-water flow model," by David W. Pollock; USGS OFR 94-464). A complete PostScript version of the MODPATH/MODPATH-PLOT user's guide (OFR 94-464) is also included on the diskettes."

"MudView++ is a Windows application for viewing QMIPS2 format digital sonar data files. It was developed at the USGS Marine Facility to allow scientists to use desktop computers to access sonar data file images for interpretation, review and publication. MudView++ is written in Microsoft Visual C++ VI .5 and the source code is available3 to the public. The QMIPS format has become the de facto standard for sonar data acquisition in both the Atlantic and Pacific Branches of Marine Geology. Between the two branches there are three QMIPS compatible systems collecting sonar imagery. MudView++ provides the link between the field data collection system and the geologist's desktop."
