The Common Worship process is now complete and this second volume covers all the new material which was not covered in the first. The success of the first volume points to the need for a serious and scholarly commentary on the whole range of Common Worship texts. Included is a historical survey of the origins and development of many of the rites from New Testament times, accompanied by detailed commentary on the rite as a whole, and comparisons with the ASB and recommended titles for further reading.

This volume works through all the elements of the new liturgical material. Each section includes the history and theology of the service, and a commentary on the text. Like its predecessor, it sets out to be the standard reference book for the field.
