Four long letters totalling some 183 pages written from the Harvard Observatory on Nov. 16, 20, 25, and 29, 1902. Not having found a permanent position by age 27, Brasch left his temporary work as a bookbinder at Stanford University Press and traveled across country by train in hopes of working at an observatory. His plan was successful and he started at Harvard College Observatory in an unpaid position; later being promoted to the salaried position of assistant observor. The letters cover the story of the train trip and the beginning of his Harvard stay.
