Set in Buenos Aires, 1933. The life of Renzo Franchi, an obscure tango singer, is at a point of permanent change because of Juanita, a beautiful young Spanish woman. Upon meeting Renzo, Juanita notices his great physical resemblence to Carlos Gardel, whom she secretly admires. Dazzled by the similiarity of both people, she pushes Renzo to transform himself into a perfect imitator of the "Zorzal Crillo" (native fox) in both image and musical style. When a representative of Gardel notices the simularity between Renzo and his client, he contracts him to join the group. Soon Renzo feels he is loosing his identity. His relationship with Juanita and the musicians deteriorates until he finds himself alone and penniless in Columbia. There his path crosses with Rinaldo Costra and Alfredo Le Pera, from whom he receives a proposition with unpredictable consequences.
