On May 7, 2017, the Met celebrated its golden anniversary in Lincoln Center with a spectacular gala featuring many of the greatest artists in opera. Pour mon âme!, " soprano Anna Netrebko's show-stopping "Un bel dì" to the late baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky's heroic surprise appearance singing "Cortigiani, vil razza dannata, " the evening was a magnificent tribute to decades of unforgettable Met history

Since their origin with the Auditions of the Air in the 1930s, the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions have helped discover promising young opera singers and assisted them in the development of their careers. Today, the auditions take place in 42 districts and 12 regions throughout the US and Canada and are often a defining step in the artistic growth of our greatest opera stars.
