The Koryo Dynasty (918-1932), one of the most interesting eras in Korean history, is in its final stages. The king is young and strong-willed, increasingly unwilling to adopt the Koryo ruler's traditionally subservient position towards China. Around him he has gathered a group of warriors, headed by the fanatically loyal and talented Hong Lim. But the king's failure to produce an heir has left him vulnerable, and Yuan Dynasty rulers in China have demanded that the king's cousin be installed as crown prince. The potential for an outbreak of violence, either from inside or outside the palace walls, appears to be high. From inside the monarch's private quarters, however, things are even more complicated. Wanee is an animator living with a film writer named Junah. Although they have love, it is not passionate, but more a situation of convenience to absorb the brunt of the world together. When Wanee learns that her half-brother is returning from Europe, it puts her entire world in upheaval. As his arrival time grows ever closer, Wanee finally begins to open up to Junah, and explains why she is so depressed all the time. She tells him that her half-brother was her first (yet impossible) love, and that this love indirectly resulted in their father's death. Min-ki is a banker who gets laid off after six years of service. Although he's under constant sense of uneasiness, he lives his new leisurely life without the stress of work, thanks to the successful career of his wife Bo-ra. Taking care of their baby daughter, doing the housework, and spending quiet time reading at the park, these are all blessings for Min-ki. Meanwhile, Bo-ra is having an adulterous affair with her college sweetheart Il-bum, with whom she was separated when he left for the military. Although she treasures her family and desires to keep it together, she is moved by Il-bum's love and by the sweet reminiscence of her youth. Soon, Min-ki discovers their intimate relationship, which brings about much pain and confusion among the three. All three dream of the possibilities for a happy end, bringing about an unexpected outcome.

In 1375, China was in a state of chaos because of fighting between the yuan and Ming Dynasties. The Koryo Dynastiy sent a delegation to make peace with Ming. However, the delefation were accused of spying and sent in exile to a desert. General Choi Jung decides to return to Korea. Out of expectation, they meet Ming's princess Furong who has been kidnapped and fall in love with Choi Jung.
