The National Statistical Offices (NSOs) from African countries in collaboration with the Minnesota Population Center (MPC) is developing the the African Integrated Census Microdata (AICMD) portal. The database contains anonymized microdata samples encompassing 19 censuses and totaling more than 27 million person records (June 2010). The integration and full documentation of the data are organized by the MPC, in parallel with similar activities covering other parts of the world with funding by the National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health of the United States. By 2015, the MPC is committed to disseminating at least 250 integrated census microdata sets from 80 or more countries. African censuses may constitute as much as one-fourth of the database with widespread support of NSOs in Africa. Contains approximately 112 census microdata samples from the 1960, 1970, 1980, 1990 and 2000 for several African countries. Includes an inventory of censuses, however not all countries have available microdata.

AidData is a development research and innovation lab at the College of William & Mary. Our interdisciplinary team of 40 faculty and staff helps international development organizations to more effectively track, target, coordinate, and evaluate their investments. We use precise data and rigorous methods to address the question of ‘who is doing what, where, for whom, and to what effect’. Our work is made possible through partnerships with USAID’s Global Development Lab, the World Bank and the William & Flora Hewlett Foundation, among others. AidData Research Datasets are organized into two collections: Sub-national, Geospatial Research Datasets and Country-Level Research Datasets. The Country-level dataset includes commitment information for over 1.5 million development finance activities funded between 1947 and 2013. The dataset covers 96 donors and includes ODA, OOF flows, Equity Investments, and Export Credits where available. AidData Core Research Releases are particularly useful for researchers since they are flat, static versions of the data that allow for replication and comparison. AidData’s goal is to publish updated research releases on a bi-annual basis.

"The Confidential Print series, issued by the Foreign and Colonial Offices since around 1820, is...one of the most important series produced by the British Government....Spanning the full era of the modern European colonisation of Africa, from the occupation of Algeria by France, through increasing British presence on the west African coast and around the Cape of Good Hope in the south, the Berlin Conference which set off the 'Scramble for Africa', the high-water mark of economic exploitation of Africans in the Congo Free State, rivalries amongst European powers and the era of withdrawal that followed the Second World War, Confidential Print: Africa is a fundamental resource for academics, students and researchers studying modern Africa and its recent history. The resource also features 300 colour maps"--Introduction.

The collection covers Middle Eastern history from 1812-1958; countries included are: Afghanistan, Egypt, Sudan, Persia, Suez Canal, Turkey, Jordan, Arabia, Iraq, Lebanon, Israel, Palestine, and Syria. The series originated out of a need for the British Government to preserve all of the most important papers generated by the Foreign and Colonial Offices. Some of these were one page letters or telegrams -- others were large volumes or texts of treaties. All items marked 'Confidential Print' were circulated to leading officials in the Foreign Office, to the Cabinet, and to heads of British missions abroad.
