Motivation in learning English is one of the big problems for someEnglish students in FKIP Lancang Kuning University. The aim of this researchis to find the range of English students’ motivation in learning English, intrinsicand extrinsic motivation of the students. This research is using interview andquestionare for 56 English students, and then analyzed by using SPSS to get thereal data and performs them in percentage, table, and diagram and thendescribed.Kata kunci: Motivation, language acquisition.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kemampuan mahasiswa dalam mengucapkan kata berakhiran -ed pada kata kerja beraturan bentuk lampau (regular verb past tense). Hasil analisis tersebut digunakan sebagai bahan evaluasi mata kuliah Pronunciation. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kuantitatif dengan rancangan penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif. Yang menjadi partisipan dalam penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa semester 1 yakni kelas 1A dan 1B Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris FKIP-UNILAK Tahun Akademik 2016/2017 yang berjumlah sebanyak 54 orang. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah tes dan wawancara (interview). Data yang didapat dari tes diolah menggunakan rubrik penilaian dan data yang didapat dari wawancara dijelaskan secara deskriptif. Berdasarkan hasil tes, ditemukan bahwa nilai rata-rata mahasiswa secara keseluruhan adalah 70.4 dan digolongkan kedalam kategori yang kurang baik (fair). Selanjutnya, nilai rata-rata untuk kelas 1A adalah 66.5 dan nilai kelas 1B adalah 69.2 (fair). Kemudian, berdasarkan hasil wawancara, ditemukan bahwa kelemahan mahasiswa dalam pengucapan kata tersebut dipengaruhi oleh jarangnya meluangkan waktu untuk berlatih dan juga dipengaruhi oleh perbedaan sistem bunyi antara bahasa Inggris dan bahasa Indonesia. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa kemampuan mahasiswa dalam mengucapkan kata berakhiran-ed masih terbilang lemah. Sehingga, diperlukan perbaikan yang lebih intens lagi agar kemampuan mahasiswa dalam pengucapan kata berakhiran –ed dapat meningkat lebih baik lagi
At the grade X3 of SMAN I Tambang, the researcher found that the students havelow reading comprehension. One of the factors was the students’ lack of vocabulary. Theaimed of this research was to identify whether media can better improve students’ readingcomprehension and to find out what factors can influence the improvement of students’reading comprehension at the tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Tambang. This research wasClassroom Action Research (CAR). It had been carried out since May to June 2011. It hadtwo cycles and consisted of four meetings in each cycles. The participants of this researchwere the students at class X3 of SMAN I Tambang. They consisted of 39 students. Theresearcher found that media can better improve students’ reading comprehension at the gradeX3 of SMA Negeri I Tambang-Kampar. In conclusion, media can help the students toimprove their reading comprehension. The finding of this research implies that the use ofmedia can be used to enhance the students’ reading comprehension in English reading class.Key Words: Improve, Reading Comprehension, Media, Pictures, and Video
The aim of this research was to find out the effect of cooperative learning type snowballthrowing to improve student learning achievement on the reliance mutualin in theecosystem concept. The research was conducted at SMP Negeri 18 Pekanbaru at firstsemester in academic years 2014 / 2015. Design of the research was quasi-experimental,The Matching Only Pretest – Posttest Control Group Design. Sample of the research wastaken two classes with the number of students in each 40 people who were taken by usingsimple random sampling technique. The data were collected by using pretest, posttest andteacher’s and students’ activities observation sheets. The data analysis technique used inthis research was 2 sample independent t test, if the data were normal and homogen. Themean N-gain experimental class was 0.72 high category and the control class was 0.44medium category. Based on the result of statistical test that there were significantdifferences between the mean N-Gain experimental class and control class. Thereby canbe conluded that there were significant application of cooperative learning type snowballthrowing to improve student learning achievement on the reliance mutualin in theecosystem concept class VII SMPN 18 pekanbaru academic year 2014 / 2015.Key words : snowball throwing, learning achievement, ecosystem.
This research is based on students’ speaking ability who had followed the EnglishConversation Club (ECC) program especially for the third semester of English Department. Thepurpose of this study was to analyze the students’ speaking ability at the 3rd semester in the EnglishConversation Club FKIP UNILAK Pekanbaru. The type of the research was mixed method in typeof explanatory design. The number of participant was 53 students. The researcher used twoinstruments, those were test and interview. In analyzing the data, it used in descriptive statistics.The result of the analysis showed that the average score of 3rd semester students’ speaking abilitywas 45.42. It can be concluded that the students’ speaking ability was categorized into failed . Thescore of Standard Deviation was 7.02, Variance was 49.30, and Range was 36 points . It meansthat the students’ speaking ability was homogeneous. According to the Z-Score, it can be seen that49.06% students’ ability was higher than average and 50.94% students ability was below theaverage. In conclusion, the students’ ability in learning speaking English was failed, it had beenaffected by some factors, those were lack of vocabulary, grammar and motivation. It was supportedby the interview, eventhough the students’ perception to English Conversation Club (ECC)program was positive, but in fact, the students’ frequency to speak English was seldom, they wereless practice speaking English everyday.Keywords : Speaking , English Conversation Club (ECC)
The phenomenon found from this research was the students did not know how topronounce appropriate intonation in speaking context because they did not realize thefunction of intonation that different intonation have different meaning. The purpose of theresearch was found out the students' ability In Using English Intonation at the FourthSemester Students of English Education Department Lancang Kuning University inAcademic Year 2013-2014. Type of the research was cross-sectional survey design aiming tobe an evaluation program. The sample of this research consisted of 27 students. Theinstrument used in this research was test. In collecting data, the researcher tested them dealtwith sentences or expression of simple patterns of English intonation namely falling andrising intonation. The data gained was analyzed by using descriptive statistics.Moreover, thefinding of the research showed that total of students’ score was 2110, the mean score was 78,mode of the students’ score was 70, median of students’ score was 75, variance of thestudents’ score was 57.33 and standard deviation of the students’ score was 7.57. The rangescore from lowest score 70 to highest score 95 was 25 points. After analyzing the data, thevariety of data was categorized into homogenous and the range of score was categorized intolow score or could be said that the mean score was representative. Then mean score ofstudents was categorized into good level based on grade course of phonology, score 70-79was categorized into good level or got score B. Inbrief, the students’ ability in using Englishintonation (simple patterns of English intonation) was categorized into “Good level”.Therefore, the findings of this research would be useful for the Phonology’s lecturer asevaluated in teaching program.Key Words: Ability, Phonology, English Intonation
This study highlights the internal conversation which takes place in Oracle CorporationMalaysia. Through the study, it will be shown how conversational analysis is used toanalyze the transcription of a telephone conversation between Oracle staffs. The analysisof the transcriptions will apply a few basic concepts of conversational analysis; turntakingorganization, and the adjacency pair. The objective of the study is to find out howthe internal conversations takes place by focusing on the conversation itself, that is, theconversational structures spontaneously produced by people during talk ranging fromturn-taking strategies, how topics are introduced, conversation closings and so on. Bylooking in detail at such talk, we can gain a detailed understanding of how the staffs seethemselves in relation to the company that influence their daily lives.Keywords: conversational analysis, turn-taking, adjacency pairs
This study is about the use of comic in teaching a descriptive text becausemost of the students at the seventh grade of SMPN 3 Pekanbaru got some problem incomprehending the text. The main objective of this study was to find out whether thestudents taught reading a descriptive text using comic strips achieve better than thosewho do not taught reading using comic strips at the seventh grade students of SMPN3 Pekanbaru. The design of the research was experimental study. The researcher gavetry-out test to analyze validity and reliability of each item. Some test was used toanalyze the data that obtained from the pre-and post-test. They were normality test,Homogeneity test, and t-test. It was showed that the mean of experimental score washigher than the mean of control class (74.51>64.75). The test of hypothesis using ttestformula showed the value of the Asym Sig (2-tailed) 0.000 < 0.05. The nullhypothesis was rejected. Then, the criteria value of N-gain pre-test and post testexperimental class was middle. In conclusion, students who taught reading adescriptive text with comic strips achieved better than students who did not taughtwithout comic strips.Key words: Comic Strips, Reading Comprehension, Descriptive Text
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh strategi pembelajaran thepower of two berbantuan crossword puzzle terhadap hasil belajar siswa pada materi gerakpada tumbuhan di kelas VIII SMP Negeri 1 Minas. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada semesterganjil bulan November tahun ajaran 2015/2016. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalahkuasi eksperimen dengan the matching only pretest-posttest group design. Sampel penelitianadalah siswa kelas VIII1 dan VIII2, yang diambil dengan teknik simple random sampling.Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui pretest, posttest dan lembar observasi aktivitas guru dansiswa. Teknik analisis data menggunakan uji-t independen 2 sampel. Rerata N-Gain padakelas eksperimen adalah 0,75 kategori tinggi dan pada kelas kontrol 0,25 kategori rendah.Berdasarkan analisis hasil uji-t menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan antara kelas kontroldan kelas eksperimen, dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa strategi pembelajaran thepower of two berbantuan crossword puzzle memberikan pengaruh yang positif terhadap hasilbelajar siswa pada materi gerak pada tumbuhan di kelas VIII SMP Negeri 1 Minas TahunAjaran 2015/2016.Kata kunci : the power of two, crossword puzzle, hasil belajar, gerak pada tumbuhan
This research is based on the problem faced by the students such as: difficulty inunderstanding the generic structures of descriptive text and the difficulties in developingparagraph. The purpose of this research was to improve the students’ writing skill by usingNeuro Linguistics Programming (NLP) strategy at VIII grade of SMPN 11 Mandau Duri. Theresearch design was Classroom Action Research (CAR) consisted of two cycles. The datawere collected by using test, field note, observation sheet, and interview. Then, the datacollected were analyzed by using scoring rubric of writing descriptive text. The result showedthat students’ ability in writing descriptive text could be improved. It could be seen frombased score of students writing skill was 38 (failed) improve to 51 (failed) in cycle 1 to 70(Pass) in cycle II. It was caused by some factors, those were the teacher gave motivation,created enjoyfull experience, comfortable class and used various media. In conclusion, theuse of NLP strategy has many beneficial.Keywords:Writing skill, Descriptive Text and NLP strategy.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara disiplin belajar danmotivasi belajar terhadap hasil belajar siswa pada materi gerak pada makhluk hidup dikelas VIIISMP Negeri 16 Pekanbaru tahun ajaran 2014/2015 yang dilakukan pada bulan November 2014.Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian korelasional. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah 71 orangsiswa kelas VIII menggunakan teknik simple random sampling. Teknik analisis data yangdigunakan adalah korelasi Pearson Product Moment. Berdasarkan analisis data diperoleh nilai rdisiplin belajar terhadap hasil belajar 0,127 positif sangat rendah, nilai r motivasi belajarterhadap hasil belajar 0,181 positif sangat rendah, dan nilai koefisien korelasi ganda antaradisiplin belajar dan motivasi belajar R = 0,181 positif sangat rendah. Selanjutnya dengan rumuskoefisien determinan didapatkan hasil sebesar 0.0327. Artinya variabel disiplin belajar danmotivasi belajar mempunyai hubungan terhadap hasil belajar sebesar 3,27 % dan sisanyasebesar 96,73 kemungkinan ditentukan oleh faktor lain.Kata kunci: Disiplin belajar, Motivasi belajar, Hasil belajar
This research was about students’ pronunciation ability in speaking English atUniversity of Lancang Kuning academic year 2015/2016.Type of the research was crosssectional survey design with the aim as an evaluation program. The number of theparticipant of this research were 36 of third semester of English Education DepartmentFaculty of Education and Teachers Training Lancang Kuning University Pekanbaru whichwere selected by using simple random sampling.Instrument was used in this research wasoral test. In collecting the data, the researcher gave the students test on speakingpronunciation in front of the class. The data gained was analyzed by using descriptivestatistic.The researcher found the students’ pronunciation in speaking were medium ; someconsistent phonemic and foreign stress and intonation patterns but the speaker is intelligible.It was proved by their mean score 1,8. In conclusion to get better pronunciation in speakingskill, the lecturer was suggested to find good strategy in teaching speaking English.Keyword :Pronunciation, Speaking Skill
As the students of English Department, the students should be able in doing grammarwell, in this case Possessive Pronoun. The purpose of this research was to find out the students’ability in applying Possessive Pronoun and their common problem in applying PossessivePronoun in writing sentences at 1st semester FKIP UNILAK Pekanbaru. The type of the researchwas mixed method in type of explanatory design. The number of population was 105 students, theresearcher took 53 students as sample of the 1st semester FKIP UNILAK Pekanbaru selected bysimple random sampling. In collecting the data the researcher used two instrument, test andinterview. The form of test was essay test. The interview is held to support the data. In analyzingthe data, the researcher used SPSS in descriptive statistics. The result of the analysis showedthat the average score of 1st semester student in applying Possessive Pronoun was 52.98.Meanwhile for the median is 48, the mode is 20. The score of Standard Deviation is 27.93,Variance is 780.25, and Range is 84. According to the Z-Score, it can be seen that 41.5%students’ ability was higher than average and 58.5% students ability was below the average. Itcan be seen that students’ ability in applying Possessive Pronoun was low. For the commonproblem, based on the test, students still mixed up between Possessive Pronoun and PossessiveAdjectives. Students used wrong pattern in using Possessive Pronoun, in which they still useSubject or Object Pronoun. Based on interview, students did not understand clearly aboutPossessive Pronoun, also they have difficulties in learning Possessive Pronoun, for the reason ofabsence of review the lesson. In conclusion, students’ ability in applying Possessive Pronouncorresponds with their common problem.Keywords:Possessive Pronoun
In SMA N 1 TAMBANG, the researcher found Based on the result of observation thefact shows that most of the students have low ability in descriptive text, especially at the tenthgrade students. It perhaps, caused by several factors such as, some students do not know genericof structure, some students do not really understand about information of given paragraphs, somestudents do not fully know the meaning of vocabulary, some students have problem in thebackground knowledge of the text given, and some students get bored they have to as look up adictionary in frequent. This research was conducted to know the students ability in understandingdescriptive text and what factor influence their ability. Survey design was method used in thisresearch. There was quantitative descriptive statistic. The result showed that the ability of the attenth grade SMA N 1 TAMBANG in understanding descriptive text. The average of mean scoreof the students’ ability in understanding descriptive text is 56.5. It could be identified that thestudents’ ability in understanding descriptive text is categorized into less. The purpose of this research is to know the effect of learning make a matchmethod assisted reading guide on students concept comprehension of the subjectmaters human digestive system in class VIII SMPN 30 Pekanbaru. This researchconducted on November 2014. The method of this research used was quasiexperiment with the nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. Thesampel of this research were students of VIII1 and VIII3 with using simple totalsampling technique. The data was analyzed in the from of t-test. The data wherecollected by pretest, posttest and observations. The mean of N-gain at experimentclass was 0,77 categorized at hight level, while at control class was 0,36Categorized at medium level. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahuai pengaruh pembelajaran kooperatifmodel (Teaching Game Team) TGT dengan (Course Review Horay) CRH terhadappenguasaan konsep sirkulasi darah. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan November di SMPNegeri 19 Pekanbaru kelas VIII Semester I Tahun Ajaran 2015/2016. Penelitian inimerupakan penelitian kuasi eksperimen dengan desain penelitian the matching only PretestPosttest Control group Design.. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah kelas kontrol VIII2dengan jumlah siswa 33 dan kelas eksperimen VIII1 dengan jumlah siswa 33. Dalampenelitian ini sampel ditentukan dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling.Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui pretest, posttest dan lembar observasi aktivitas siswadan guru. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini berupa uji-t independent 2sample dan uji U-Mann Whitney. Rerata N-gain pada kelas eksperimen 0,75 (kategori tinggi)dan pada kelas kontrol 0,49 (kategori sedang). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh strategi pembelajaran aktiflearning cell terhadap hasil belajar siswa pada sistem pernapasan manusia. Sampel penelitianadalah siswa kelas VIII1 dan VIII2dengan teknik simple random sampling. Pengumpulan datamelalui pretest, posttest, lembar observasi siswa dan guru.Rerata N-Gain kelas eksperimen0,81, sedangkan kelas kontrol 0,41. Berdasarkan uji u-man whitney terdapat perbedaan yangsignifikan antara N-gain kelas kontrol dan eksperimen. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwaterdapat pengaruh penggunaan strategi pembelajaran aktif learning cellterhadap hasil belajarsiswa pada materi sistem pernapasan manusia di kelas VIII SMPN 5 Kabupaten Rokan HuluTahun Ajaran 2015/2016.Kata kunci : learning cell, hasil belajar
The objective of this research was to find out whether students’ activities throughsong can be used as media for improving the students speaking skill. The participants of thisstudy were the students of semester two B of the English department of Education Facultyand Teachers Training Lancang Kuning University academic year 2009/2010. The number ofsubjects in this research was 21 students. The writer conducted an action research to find theanswer of the problem. In solving the problem, the writer carried out in two cycles, whicheach cycle had four meetings. It was done from April 12th, 2010 until Mei 31st , 2010. Theresearcher and collaborator gathered the data in each meeting in cycle 1 and 2 from thechecklist of observation for teacher and students, field note/recording test and interview.After analyzing the data, it was found that the activities through song improved the students’speaking skill and influenced all indicators of speaking skill in term of accent, grammar,vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Furthermore, it built up the students confidence andparticipation in class. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui cara/gaya belajar (Learning Style) anakDownsyndrome di Sekolah PAUD Inklusi Rumah Dongeng Agus DS Pekanbaru. Jenis penelitianini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara observasilangsung ke lapangan dan wawancara mendalam (Depth Interview) dengan informan melaluidokumentasi. Dalam penelitian ini data dianalisis dengan menggunakan langkah-langkah yangdianjurkan oleh Miles (dalam Sugiyono :246) yaitu : (1) mereduksi data, (2) menyajikan data (3)menyimpulkan dan melakukan verifikasi. Dari hasil penelitian diketahui bahwa modelpembelajaran langsung (direct instruction) yang terdapat di Sekolah PAUD Inklusi TerpaduRumah Dongeng Kak Agus DS Pekanbaru terdiri dari 3 fase (tahapan), yaitu: Fase (tahapan)Orientasi, Fase (tahapan) Presentasi/Demontrasi, dan Fase (tahapan) Terstruktur. Berdasarkanhasil temuan di atas dapat disimpulkan bahwa cara/gaya belajar (Learning Style) anakDownsyndrome di Sekolah PAUD Inklusi Rumah Dongeng Agus DS Pekanbaru beranekaragam.Peneliti melihat bahwa anak downsyndrome tertarik untuk belajar lebih baik dan dapat membuattugas dengan baik.Kata Kunci: Downsyndrome, PAUD Inklusi
