Abstract
Didache1:4b – ἐὰν λάβῃ τίς ἀπὸ σοῦ τὸ σόν, μὴ ἀπαἱτει, οὐδὲ γὰρ δύνασαι [if anyone takes something from you that is yours, do not ask it back, because you should not or would not be able to] – is discussed in this article as problematic to the present mindset of the Nigerian church, especially as frontal attacks and premeditated persecutions from rival religions daily threaten to exterminate the Christian faith in Nigeria. This article argues that the Christians in Nigeria unwittingly interpreted this first-century document and wrongly so because this interpretation has metamorphosed into an ideology. The article suggests a sharp measure against this ideology. Contribution: The church in Nigeria is controlled in their attitude towards self-defense by the text of Didache 1:4b. This article’s contribution is a reexamination of the text in comparison to its parallel in the synoptic texts to assert that the synoptic texts, instead of Didache 1:4b, suggests non-violent self-defense.

Abstract
A survey of works on the development of nascent trinitarianism, especially in the last several decades, reveals that most treatments cut a wide path around three of the earliest Christian writings: Didache, Barnabas, and Shepherd of Hermas. Because these writings straddle the apostolic/post-apostolic eras (c. AD 50-150), they should be regarded as essential links in any historical account of the development of trinitarian theology. Nevertheless, these writings have sometimes been regarded as having sketchy, scant, or scandalous christologies and pneumatologies. This article argues that the typical critical estimations of these writings as nontrinitarian are under-supported by the textual evidence. Rather, Didache, Barnabas, and the Shepherd of Hermas may very well presuppose a basic christocentric and trinitarian creation-redemption narrative. Far from scandalous, these texts provide a positive link in the continuity from seminal apostolic trinitarian thought to the later trinitarian growth of the second century.

This book maps the relationship between Matthew's Gospel and the Didache. No consensus regarding the nature of this relationship has yet been achieved, neither has serious consideration been given to the possibility that Matthew depended directly on the Didache. If it may be shown that such was the case, then this infamously enigmatic text may finally be used to answer a series of tantalizing questions: what is the pattern of the Synoptic relationships? How did the earliest Jewish Christians incorporate Gentiles? What was the shape of Eucharistic worship in the first century?

Abstract
This is a close reading of Didache 16, examining its function and dating, and its relationship to the whole of Didache and to New Testament traditions. Didache uses language and symbols that were common currency In the early church. As has often been noted, parallels to Matthew are especially strlking, but not close enough to warrant describing Didache 16 as a clarification of ambiguities In Metthew. The main purpose of the final chapter of Didache is rather to encourage believers to follow the teaching given in the early chapters, especially the call to hold on to the falth in times of trial.

Le présent article transcrit les passages eucharistiques de la Didachè (chap. 9 et 10), qui sont plus anciens que l'ensemble et qui y ont été insérés par le dernier rédacteur. Certains auteurs les datent de la moitié du premier siècle et ils relèveraient de la tradition lucano-paulinienne, alors que la Didachè est datée de la fin de ce même siècle. L'A. commente ensuite ces textes et vérifie qu'il s'agit bien de prières eucharistiques précédant la communion, d'une tradition eucharistique d'Antioche avec Luc et Paul, qu'elles appartiennent au genre littéraire de la berakkha juive avec bénédiction de Dieu et anamnèse ; mais on n'y trouve pas le récit de l'institution de l'eucharistie, simplement une évocation du comportement du Christ à la dernière scène qui devait suffire.

Grâce aux chapitres 9-10 de la Didache, l'A. pense qu'il est possible d'entrevoir comment les chrétiens qui accomplissaient la prière du repas se sont peu à peu détachés de la tradition juive et en sont venus au sacrement de l'eucharistie. Bien sûr, on continue à fêter le repas entre les hommes, mais il n'empêche que la Didache offre l'exemple d'une première fête eucharistique: voir la pratique de la fragmentation du pain, voir également l'emploi du terme de sacrifice pour cette fête de l'eucharistie des premiers chrétiens.

L'A. cherche à éclairer le propos de la Didachè sur la notion de la communion des biens (4:8) en confrontant ce témoin du christianisme naissant avec ce que l'A. appelle le judaïsme moyen : c'est-à-dire le judaïsme pratiqué entre le IIIe siècle avant JC et le IIe siècle après JC. L'étude comparative fait ressortir entre Didachè et judaïsme moyen des convergences et de différences significatives, notamment en matière de communion des biens. Il s'agit de lever les difficultés d'interprétation que pose Didachè 4:8.
