Adobe Systems' $695 Adobe Premiere 4.0 video editing software is a low-cost entry into high-quality video and multimedia production. Its powerful tools allow users to arrange digitized video clips and sound to create a movie. To achieve its highest potential, Premiere should be used with a video-capture board for capturing and digitizing the video sequences. Users can also import a variety of different file types, so they can work from multiple sources. Its easy drag-and-drop operations make it easy to manipulate clips. A time scale shows the movie's elapsed time, and a good selection of transitional effects are included. Any part of the movie can be previewed, by dragging the cursor along the time scale. The movies can display at 30 frames per second, but the resulting files are quite large. To mitigate some of the space requirements, Premiere incorporates compression technology.

Adobe Systems' $795 Adobe Premiere 4.2 desktop video software can handle a range of video, audio and graphics files with its excellent video editing program. Premiere 4.2 offers impressive new features in addition to the functions expected in a 32-bit Windows 95 program. The program supports unattended batch processing and background compiling and allows users to build thumbnail 32x32 movies with low storage requirements. In addition, users can create digital movies with a film resolution of 4096x4096. However, Premiere requires a formidable amount of equipment and disk space. Users should be prepared to work with multiple combinations of file types and sources, use various combinations of filters and special effects to shape content and add graphics and titles to create even a simple video.
