Abstract
The article presents criticism of the poem "Resignation," by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The author discusses sentimentality and sentimentalism in Longfellow's poetry. Topics addressed include the death of Longfellow's daughter Fanny and references to her death in his poetry, "Resignation" as a consolation poem read at funerals, and imagery of dead children in the poem.
