PRIVILEGE (Social sciences), RACISM in literature, and GENDER
A literary criticism of the book "Sag Harbor" by Colson Whitehead is presented. According to the author, the novel shows that class privilege does not protect African American families from public and private violence. It is suggested that the intersections of race and gender plays a significant role in societal understandings of public and private space. The implications of the July 2009 arrest of Harvard Scholar Louis Gates Jr. are also discussed.
