Abstract
Rapid real-time control prototyping is being applied to system simulation. Rapid-prototyping hastens simulation since it uses fast, dedicated digital signal processing (DSP) hardware. Real-time control systems simulation necessitates the modeling of plant dynamics and controller functions. Vendors claim that rapid-prototyping systems help reduce project time by as much as 50%. Hardware-in-the-loop digital signal processing plant emulation, for example, enables the testing of controller electronics validity even if the live plant is still unavailable. Plant prototyping also dispenses of the risks and inconveniences prevalent in live-plant prototyping. Additional DSP hardware can be used to increase prototyping system power, but integrity and complexity tradeoffs have to be considered first.
Programmable logic devices -- Innovations and Circuit design -- Methods
Abstract
In-system programmable (ISP) devices provide designers with prototyping benefits. ISP devices can be programmed several times in the prototype system until correct functionality is achieved. Designers using ISP devices can also make key changes to the manufacturing process, thereby giving companies substantial economic benefits. The devices can be programmed in the field by connecting to the pc board's programming pins via a cable or by building the necessary reprogramming circuitry on the pc board itself.

Prototypes, Engineering -- Evaluation and Analog integrated circuits -- Design and construction
Abstract
Analog circuit designers are increasingly relying on prototyping methods to designing high-speed, high-performance analog or mixed-signal circuits. These methods, which include the 'dead-bug' technique and the solder-mount approach, are used in conjunction with simulation techniques to verify the performance of analog circuits and make the necessary changes in the design of the final product.
