The article reports the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) chose Herbert Van de Sompel, head of the digital library research and prototyping team at the Research Library of the Los Alamos National Laboratory, as its first-ever SPARC Innovator. The SPARC initiative recognizes individuals, institutions, or groups that reflect SPARC principles to benefit researchers, libraries, universities and the public. Van de Sompel is the initiator of the Open Archives Initiatives and the open reference linking framework.
