Engaging the ethics of data science may involve considering how practitioners learn to think about and handle several trade-offs. These trade-offs relate to critics' insistence that normative issues pervade all work with data while leaving the issue of ethical agency unaddressed. Data scientists should be more forthcoming about all of the small choices that shape their decisions and systems.
