Biomass energy industries, Coal-fired power plants, Prices, and Electricity
The article reports that FirstEnergy Corp. has canceled plans to convert two coal-fired units at its R.E. Burger Plant in Shadyside, Ohio, to generate electricity principally with biomass. According to FirstEnergy officials, new projections of sharply lower power prices over the next few years have made the project uneconomic. Market prices for electricity in Ohio's deregulated market have dropped significantly since the biomass repowering project was announced in April 2009.
