Japan's Ministry of International Trade and Industry has begun a four-year, $840-million project aimed at developing an affordable rapid prototyping (RP) system. Present RP systems cost between $400,000-$1 million. The leading RP system manufacturer in Japan is Computer Modeling and Engineering Technology Inc. (CMET), which has developed around 100 RP systems in Japan. Some examples of CMET's RP models are presented.
