High frequency power electronics utilizing wide-band gap semiconductor devices imposes more stringent requirements for highly accurate extraction of parasitics of power electronics systems in a wide frequency range. This paper presents the state-of-the-art modeling approaches used to predict the electromagnetic behavior of power electronic systems and components in terms of accuracy and computational cost. The potential of the Partial Element Equivalent Circuit (PEEC) technique for virtual prototyping of power electronic systems is assessed. The main advantage of this numerical technique is its capability for direct coupling between the circuit and electromagnetic domains provided by the PEEC meshing of three-dimensional geometries in partial elements. The aim of this paper is to provide a more comprehensive understanding of PEEC-based modeling for power electronics packaging.

By splitting a complex ray-casting process into different tasks performed on different processors, Voreen provides a lot of flexibility because users can intervene at different points during ray casting. Voreen's object-oriented design lets users easily create customized processor classes that cooperate seamlessly with existing classes. A user-friendly GUI supports rapid prototyping of visualization ideas. We've implemented several applications based on our library. In the future, we'd like to further extend Voreen's capabilities to make visualization prototyping even easier on all abstraction levels. Thus, we plan to realize a set of dedicated processor skeletons, which are solely configured through shader programs and can thus be modified at runtime.

When using segmented Ge-detectors for gamma ray tracking it is necessary to determine the segment pulse shapes with high accuracy. A high-speed data acquisition system with many channels, high precision and with high sampling rate is required. To find the optimum performance, we are investigating what can be achieved by a system with extremely high sampling rates, 10 bits @2GS/s. There are many other applications for such a system. Higher sampling rates usually mean lower bit resolution of the ADC, but with oversampling we expect to achieve a very good energy and time resolution. The system uses high performance FPGAs (Xilinx Virtex-IV) to cope with the data rates delivered by the high speed ADCs and to make all the data processing onboard in real time. Control and monitoring is implemented in an embedded soft processor. This processor is also in charge of the offboard gigabit Ethernet communication. The final system will consist of several separate boards, each with a number of input channels that will have to communicate with each other in real time over a high-speed communication link. The processed result will be transmitted over Ethernet to final storage. The project introduces many challenging issues, which are being addressed in turn with different prototype designs. These issues are: the ADC performance, interfacing the ADCs to the FPGA, implementing the flexible processing algorithms and high speed interconnection between the boards.

The medication noncompliance problem has caused serious threat to public health as well as huge financial waste would wide. The emerging pervasive healthcare enabled by the Internet-of-Things offers promising solutions. In addition, an in-home healthcare station (IHHS) is needed to meet the rapidly increasing demands for daily monitoring and on-site diagnosis and prognosis. In this paper, a pervasive and preventive medication management solution is proposed based on intelligent and interactive packaging (I2Pack) and intelligent medicine box (iMedBox). The intelligent pharmaceutical packaging is sealed by the Controlled Delamination Material (CDM) and controlled by wireless communication. Various vital parameters can also be collected by wearable biomédical sensors through the wireless link. On-site diagnosis and prognosis of these vital parameters are supported by the high performance architecture. Additionally, friendly user interface is emphasized to ease the operation for the elderly, disabled, and patients. A prototyping system of the I2Pack and iMedBox is implemented and verified by field trials.

In-home healthcare services based on the Internet-of-Things (IoT) have great business potentials. To turn it into reality, a business ecosystem should be established first. Technical solutions should therefore aim for a cooperative ecosystem by meeting the interoperability, security, and system integration requirements. In this paper, we propose an ecosystem-driven design strategy and apply it in the design of an open-platform-based in-home healthcare terminal. A cooperative business ecosystem is formulated by merging the traditional healthcare and mobile internet ecosystems. To support the ecosystem in practical technology and business development, ecosystem-driven standardization efforts, security mechanisms, terminal design principles, and data handling schemes are analyzed and corresponding solutions or guidelines are presented. Thirdly, to verify the proposed design strategy and guidelines, an open-platform-based terminal is implemented and demonstrated by a prototyping system.

JADE is a multiagent-based framework widely used for prototyping agent-oriented mechatronic architectures. JADE's messaging performance is normally rated unsuitable for real time operation in a mechatronic context and there are a few papers in the literature backing up this claim. The author's share this view however the main purpose of this paper is to highlight that distinct message exchange coding patters influence the round trip time (RTT) of the messages quite substantially. The paper presents a comparative performance analysis, based on the RTT, of these coding patterns. The majority of the published tests is focused in the evaluation of the RTT when pairs of communicating agents are added to the platform. The analysis presented in this work is focused on the efficiency of each method as the responder agent receives messages continuously.

Requirements validation ensures that the software requirements specification contains complete and consistent set of requirements which are according to the customer needs. This paper provides overview of requirements validation techniques like requirements inspections, requirements prototyping, requirements testing and viewpoint-oriented requirements validation. This paper highlights pros and cons of these requirements validation techniques. In requirements testing special attention is given to TCD inspections.
