- Summary

The discovery of a previously lost Gospel of Judas Iscariot has electrified the Christian community. What Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John tell us about Judas, the disciple who betrayed Jesus, is inconsistent and biased. Therefore, the revelation of an ancient gospel that portrays this despised man as someone who saw his role in the Passion of Christ as integral to a larger plan--a divine plan--brings new clarity to the old story. If Judas had not betrayed Jesus, Jesus would not have been handed over to the authorities, crucified, buried, and raised from the dead. Could it be that without Judas, the Easter miracle would never have happened? In "The Secrets of Judas", James M. Robinson, an expert historian of early Christianity, examines the Bible and other ancient texts and reveals what we can and cannot know about the life of the historical Judas, his role in Jesus's crucifixion, and whether the Christian church should reevaluate his intentions and possible innocence. Robinson tells the sensational story of the discovery of a gospel attributed to Judas, and shows how this affects Judas's newfound meaning for history and for the Christian faith.

19. The sayings Gospel Q in Greek and English : with parallels from the Gospels of Mark and Thomas [2001]
- Leuven ; Sterling, Va. : Peeters, 2001.
- Description
- Book — 174 p. ; 23 cm.
- Summary
-
The Sayings Gospel Q in Greek and English with Parallels from the Gospels of Mark and Thomas is the outcome of a generation's work (by the International Q Project) in reconstructing the collection of the sayings ascribed to Jesus (and some to John) that lies behind the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. It is an important source for reconstructing the message of Jesus' original Galilean followers as they proclaimed anew after his death his message of God's reign. Q is, as a result, the most important single source for the study of the historical Jesus. It should be in the hands of every student of theology and every layperson seriously interested in knowing more about Jesus. This small volume presents, on facing pages, the Greek and English reconstruction of the text of Q, in a simplified and more readable format than the original publication The Critical Edition of Q: Synopsis including the Gospels of Matthew, Luke, Mark and Thomas with English, German and French Translations of Q and Thomas (Peeters 2000).
