Giuseppe Verdi's masterpiece Rigoletto compelling, blood-curdling and beautiful is being performed for the first time on the Bregenz lake stage. The stage director and designer Philipp Stölzl, known for his successful productions at Salzburg Festival as well as music videos for the German band Rammstein, highlights the striking contrasts between spectacle and intimate chamber drama in his production of Verdis opera.

Based on Schiller's play The Robbers, I masnadieri was commissioned by Her Majesty's Theatre in London, where it was first performed in 1847, conducted by the composer. Once again Verdi was fascinated by the idea of giving musical expression to the eerie and earthy elements in his source. No wonder, then, that the work had many detractors among critics but was a popular success with its audiences.

Willy Decker's stunning production of Verdi's unforgettable drama stars the riveting singing actress Natalie Dessay as Violetta. Exhausted by her restless life as a courtesan, Violetta knows she will die soon. But then she meets the young and idealistic Alfredo (Matthew Polenzani), who offers her true love--with tragic consequences. Dmitri Hvorostovsky is Giorgio Germont, Alfredo's stern father, and Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi is on the podium

The first ever production of La Traviata by Konwitschny of Graz Opera featuring Petersen's debut in the title role of Violetta is a highly-focused, intelligent reading of the music that was widely acclaimed by audiences. With a reduced stage set and daring cuts in the score, the production concentrates on the tragic story of the courtesan Violetta. Bonus material includes an introduction by Ioan Holender, interview with Konwitschny and Petersen as well as backstage and rehearsal footage.

Verdi's best-loved work, is performed here by a star cast in a revival of Richard Eyre's highly acclaimed 1994 production. Music Director Antonio Pappano conducts La traviata for the first time at Covent Garden. American soprano Renee Fleming returns to Covent Garden to sing Violetta for the first time with The Royal Opera.

David McVicar's dramatic production, first seen in 2009, highlights the raw emotions that drive Verdi's turbulent tale of love and revenge.
