"Remo Fernandes, musician from Goa, India, goes to the islands in 2004, hoping to make music in Jamaica and Trinidad."
"From the mid-nineteenth century Indian labourers arrived in the Caribbean on boats, bringing a few belongings and their music-- the beginnings of a remarkable cultural practice. More than 150 years later musician Remo Fernandes travels to the Islands to explore potential collaborations and create new work. 'Jahaji music' is a record of a difficult, if unusual and complex, musical journey ... [and endeavours] to weave a story of memory, identity and creativity"--Container. Records encounters, conversations, and collaborations with Mortimer Planno, Rikki Jai, Chris Cozier, Dancehall Queen Stacey, Denise "Saucy Wow" Belfon, and others, and takes the viewer to an East Indian Hindu wedding.

"Holy Harlots" examines the intersections of social marginality, morality, and magic in contemporary Brazil by analyzing the beliefs and religious practices related to the Afro-Brazilian spirit entity Pomba Gira. Said to be the disembodied spirit of an unruly harlot, Pomba Gira is a controversial figure in Brazil. Devotees maintain that Pomba Gira possesses an intimate knowledge of human affairs and the mystical power to intervene in the human world. Others view this entity more ambivalently. Kelly E. Hayes provides an intimate and engaging account of the intricate relationship between Pomba Gira and one of her devotees, Nazare da Silva. Combining Nazare's spiritual biography with analysis of the gender politics and violence that shapes life on the periphery of Rio de Janeiro, Hayes highlights Pomba Gira's role in the rivalries, relationships, and struggles of everyday life in urban Brazil. A DVD of the film "Slaves of the Saints" is included.

Jean 'Binta' Breeze is a popular Jamaican Dub poet and storyteller whose performances are so powerful she has been called a 'one-woman festival'. Her poems are Caribbean songs of innocence and experience, of love and conflict. They use personal stories and historical narratives to explore social injustice and the psychological dimensions of black women's experience. Striking evocations of childhood in the hills of Jamaica give way to explorations of the perils and delights of growth and change - through sex, emigration, motherhood and age. This book brings together new poems with poetry and reggae chants from four previous collections: Riddym Ravings, Spring Cleaning, On the Edge of an Island and The Arrival of Brighteye. Many of the poems are included on the accompanying DVD featuring two Jean 'Binta' Breeze performances filmed by Pamela Robertson-Pearce at Leicester's Y Theatre, plus an interview with Jane Dowson.

"Tropico 3 is a city-building game distinguished by its Caribbean island setting and whimsical tone. As "El Presidente," you can either rule with an iron fist or attempt to improve the island country's quality of life. You'll also create an avatar and wander across the island to directly intimidate political rivals, make speeches, or simply enjoy the sights and sounds. Actual historical events from the Cold War era lend some perspective to the story-driven campaign, which spans a total of 15 missions. Rebel groups, meddling from both the United States and Soviet Union, and other threats to power are continual challenges as you oversee your island's tourism, petroleum, mining, and farming industries. Also included is a mission generator for random maps as well as a timeline editor for custom events."--All game guide

In May of 1963, Martin Luther King, Jr. asked black people of Birmingham, Alabama to go to jail in the cause of racial equality. The adults were afraid to go to jail and so the school children marched and over 5000 of them were arrested. This lead President Kennedy to sponsor the 1964 Civil Rights Act which eventually to the march on Washington. Contains vintage film footage, re-stagings of some activities and interviews with some of the protesters.
