From 1904 to 1909, Zhan Tianyou, a returned Chinese engeneer built the first railroad of China from Beijing to Zhangjiakou. Afterward he continued to be responsible for building another 4 railroads and dreamed to built the railroad from Guangzhou to Wuhan in order to create a main railroad line from nothern to southern parts of China. His life was inseparable from Chinese railroad history and Chinese history.
