Materials intended for inclusion are wide-ranging in nature: Circulars, leaflets, fliers, pamphlets, newsletters, campaign materials, protest literature, clippings, periodicals, bulletins, letters, press releases, ephemera; and meeting, demonstration, conference, and event documentation. The collection will capture the voices of students across the great range of protest, political actions, and equal-rights advocacy from the 20th and early 21st century United States. The primary sources intended for inclusion will be broad-based across time, geography, and political viewpoint -- from the conservative to the anarchist. - [Minneapolis, MN] : East View Information Services
- Description
- 1 online resource
- Database topics
- News; Asian Studies (East, South & Southeast Asia; Middle East); East Asia Studies
- Summary
-
"The first half of the twentieth century began with the demise of China's last imperial dynasty, the Great Qing, and ended with the foundation of the People's Republic of China in October 1949. Following the 1912 establishment of China's first post-imperial government, the Republic of China, the country experienced both industrial and social revolution, a civil war during which communist and nationalist forces battled to shape the country's future, and looming external threats during both world wars. The Late Qing and Republican-Era Chinese Newspapers collection provides invaluable perspective on this critical period. The press of more than twenty cities is represented, spanning the Chinese mainland and the entire half century. The collection provides researchers a richly comprehensive perspective on Chinese life, culture, and politics throughout the collapse of the Qing Dynasty, the years of provisional government and civil war, and the birth of the People's Republic"--Publisher's description.

These primary sources are a hugely important resource for the study of missionary work, educational work, medical work, evangelism, political conflict, and the emergence of indigenous churches. The collections are truly global in scope, with Africa, East and South Asia, Australasia and the Pacific, and the Americas all well-represented. The sources will be of interest to scholars in a range of fields, from missiology to colonial history and anthropology. Highlights include: Papers of Reverend George Brown (1835-1917), Methodist missionary and ethnographer, whose personal papers are an important and fascinating record of Polynesian and Oceanic indigenous cultures. Records of female missionaries and women's missionary organisations. Women's missionary activity is an important area of study; missionary work being an early area of empowerment for women, as the call of religion gave women the right to travel to the furthest reaches of the known world - often unchaperoned
