Tells the story of 89 year old Eduard Kolga, who in 1941 was forced from his home in Estonia to Gulag 113, a forced labor camp near Kotlas in Northwest Russia. In order to escape starvation and sub-zero temperatures at the camp he and many others volunteered for the front lines, taking him to another camp east of the Ural Mountains eventually to fight the German army east of Moscow. He escaped and emigrated to Canada, finally returning to Estonia and Russia to visit in 2004.
