AidData is a development research and innovation lab at the College of William & Mary. Our interdisciplinary team of 40 faculty and staff helps international development organizations to more effectively track, target, coordinate, and evaluate their investments. We use precise data and rigorous methods to address the question of ‘who is doing what, where, for whom, and to what effect’. Our work is made possible through partnerships with USAID’s Global Development Lab, the World Bank and the William & Flora Hewlett Foundation, among others. AidData Research Datasets are organized into two collections: Sub-national, Geospatial Research Datasets and Country-Level Research Datasets. The Country-level dataset includes commitment information for over 1.5 million development finance activities funded between 1947 and 2013. The dataset covers 96 donors and includes ODA, OOF flows, Equity Investments, and Export Credits where available. AidData Core Research Releases are particularly useful for researchers since they are flat, static versions of the data that allow for replication and comparison. AidData’s goal is to publish updated research releases on a bi-annual basis.

The Archives contains the administrative and operational records created by the World Bank Group institutions, and offers a vast amount of original primary source research material related to economic development. The primary records contained in the World Bank Group Archives are the operational correspondence records for each country. These records, which are located in the six Regional Vice Presidency fonds contain general information about member countries and detailed information on each development project carried out in the country. The operational correspondence records are a source of historical information on the country economy as a whole, as well as the status of particular sectors of the economy, such as transportation, rural development, education, health and nutrition, infrastructure, etc. The World Bank Group Archives also contains a large amount of non-textual records such as photographs and audio-visual materials related to development projects and development assistance, as well as oral history interviews conducted with individuals significant in Bank Group history.

Database of Scottish Statutory Instruments or SSIs. SSIs are a form of law made by the Scottish Ministers (or other responsible authority such as the Lord President) on behalf of the Scottish Parliament. SSIs have the same legal status as primary legislation (Acts) but the process for making this form of law or amending it is quicker and involves less scrutiny. SSIs are usually in the form of regulations, orders, rules or schemes; generally SSIs set out technical details or administrative matters ecessary for primary legislation to operate. SSIs can, however, include any subject matter ranging from criminal penalties, licensing schemes, implementing EU obligations, prescribing application forms, to providing procedural rules. For more information see the Scottish Parliament's Guide to SSIs http://www.parliament.scot/Guide_to_SSIs.pdf

"The Historical Debates of the Parliament of Canada portal provides a centralized, streamlined means of accessing historical debates of the Senate and House of Commons, in both official languages. The Senate and House of Commons Debates, commonly known as the Debates, or Hansard, contain the transcribed, edited and corrected record of full deliberations of both Houses of Parliament ... This portal includes reconstituted debates, which represent debates for the years prior to the adoption of official reporting. These reconstituted debates are an unofficial version of the debates, drawn from newspaper reports of the day. Finally, the portal also includes translated debates for the Senate of Canada, which began its official report in English only. All of the reconstituted and translated content can be identified in the records"--About page.

A single downloadable .csv file provides estimates on "violent deaths" from 2004 onwards. The violent deaths indicator combines national level statistics on homicide and data on fatalities occurred in armed conflict. The database covers more than 189 countries and territories and it is kept constantly updated. Estimates on violent deaths between 2007 and 2012 are at the core of the analysis presented in the third and latest edition of the Global Burden of Armed Violence, launched in May 2015. The database combines data from a wide range of sources that report the number of people died in violent events across both conflict and non-conflict settings. Typical sources are, among others, hospitals, mortuaries, police as well as those organizations that document casualties in areas affected by armed conflict.
