In the Ottoman Empire, prisoners of war did not only include soldiers captured on the battlefield, but were an important part of the slave population in the Ottoman Empire with the women, men and children taken prisoner from the region. Who were these prisoners, how were they held captive? How were they distributed to the Ottoman geography? What kind of a process was waiting for them after capturing and deciding what to do during captivity? Fatma Sel Turhan has detailed analysis of how the war prisoner issue was applied in the Ottoman Empire in the 18th century. Within this scope, from the Karchofan to the Age, the prisoners of the Ottomans in the battles subject to the treaties, from the captives in the dungeons to the captives in the slave status, the geographies in which they were separated from their identities, the owners of what they experienced in the evictions carried out by the treaties and the difficulties encountered by these processes, In the light of an archival material, it focuses on understanding the concept of captivity in the Ottoman Empire.

II. Abdulhamid period has a special place in terms of Ottoman military history. During his reign, reforms were carried out in the Ottoman Army one after another, and a modern type of permanent army was established, which was not backed by the best European armies. Russia, which has a border with both the land and the sea, has the experience of fighting the Ottoman army and fleet, and has been investigating the military potential of the Ottoman Army and following the changes in the army closely. The Russian General Staff was well aware of the military reforms in the Ottoman Empire. All this intelligence was gathered through the system of gathering information about the Ottoman Armed Forces, which was formed by the Russian military administration. The documents in this book are stored in different locations of the RGVIA (Rossiyskiy Gosudarstvenniy Voenno-Istoriçeskiy Arhiv (Russian State Military History Archives) in Moscow, which are: Russian Army Headquarters (Fond 400), Military Training Committee (Fond 400) Fond 401), the General Staff (Fond 2000). The pictures in the study were taken from museums with different archives in Russia, and the documents used as visual materials in the work, in the above mentioned RGVİA, the soldiers used in the Ottoman Army and the soldiers' uniforms in St. Petersburg VİMAİV i VS (Voennoİstoriçeskiy Muzey Artillerii, İnjenernıh Voysk i Voysk Svyazi/Artillery, Engineer and Communication Troops Military History Museum) is published for the first time.

In the nineteenth century, a rapidly evolving global weapon technology was a result of military competition between countries of the world. Increasing the effect of having the most effective weapons in gaining the war was closely related to the Ottoman State, which was itself a regional power, and the new weapons technologies were provided by the managers simultaneously with the region where it was developed. This book, although it deals with the development process of the weapons and ammunition which take its present form, it tries to explain to what extent the Ottoman Empire has the new weapons technologies before the First World War. The book also focuses on the experience of the Ottoman war industry, which, in addition to importing technology, seeks to produce these weapons in-house. This effort is important to understand the adventure of Turkey's current defense industry. In Abdülhamid's period war industry, important enterprises of the public sector have been implemented, established or modernized factories and the experiences gained over the years have served both to gain vital successes in both Cihan Harbi and National Struggle and to the emergence of important enterprises belonging to military industry in the following years. To understand Turkey in the defense industry today is to understand the experience of significant gains in this period to grasp today, and more importantly, it is essential to plan for the future.

In this critical study, Cemil has focused on the activities of the Teşkilat-ı Mahsusa intelligence organization in the Caucasus and the Balkans, which has a wide range of operational geographies from Spain in the west to China and Indonesia in the east and from Russia in the north to Sudan in the south.
