Set in Dublin and London, the film dramatizes a pivotal moment in history. Michael Collins is sent by Eamon de Valera, President of the Irish Republic, to negotiate the end of 700 years of British occupation of Ireland. The treaty he signs is disowned by de Valera. Collins knows that he has signed his own death warrant; and, at Christmas 1921, the Irish Civil War is just weeks away.
