Portrait of Mr. and Mrs. L.G Bartel, mostly likely the Protestant missionary Loyal Houlding Bartel and his wife Susan Schultz Bartel, who moved to China together just after Loyal's graduation from Moody Bible Institute and Northern Baptist Theological Seminary. Susan left China in 1948 but Loyal died remained and died there in 1971.

Photograph album filled with approximately 540 photos mounted and/or tipped-in with corners, ranging in size from 2-1/4" x 3-1/4" to 3-1/2" x 5-1/4", many with neatly written captions in white ink underneath. Photos are accompanied by a few printed postcards, a General Mess Menu for Christmas Day [1934], a printed list for series of photos on a Chinese Funeral procession, and a few laid-in souvenir views. Approximately 11 photos removed at some point in the album's history.
Chronicles the China Station career of Royal Navy sailor Ernest Hawkens. Photographs include maps of the Cornwall’s routes to Asia and back, depictions of naval activities, as well as photos of the ship, scenery, and local inhabitants and local events in the Philippine Islands, Japan, and China.

Oblong leather-bound folio album (with string-tie binding). The album consists of 244 photographs (all tipped in) of various sizes and origins, but most of the photographs (at least 200) were taken by Williams or his colleagues during their time stationed in Shanghai. Photographs show Marines in the city, natives therein, street scenes, rural scenes, views in temples, Marines marching and in casual situations. Also contains nine photographs captioned in the photos (commercial photos) documenting public beheadings, captured rebels, police action; five hand-colored landscape views; and 17 panoramic views of countryside, the Great Wall, temples, and more. Some captions written in ink.

A visual record of U.S. Marine and island life during the interwar years on Guam in 1930. The album consists of numerous scenes on the island, including images of Piti, Apra Harbor, several beaches, various beach structures, town architecture and infrastructure, animal life and jungle settings. Several of the images of native islanders and portraits of Marines and other Americans are present as well. The majority of photographs depict life for the U.S. Marines, and detail their activities, such as military exercises, parades, artillery practice, and camping expeditions. They also show the Marine facilities, such as the barracks and other military structures, as well as a number of military vehicles, naval transports and Marine aircraft.
