It contains description of external characters, voice (song and display, alarm, calls in flight a.o.). The birds are shown at colour illustrations in different seasonal and age plumage, in different postures, on the ground (water) and in flight. The species distribution is shown on the colour maps with comments in text. Many subspecies are described and shown at the illustrations. The book is intended for all who is interested in birds -- professional ornithologists, birdwatchers, hunters, game keeping experts and wardens, bird-catchers, nature conservation specialists, biology students and teachers, young naturalist study groups and stations as well as for all nature-lovers of school age and above.

This comprehensive monograph provides a detailed introduction to the theory of chain processes, including the inhibition of chain reactions. It describes the modern theory behind the action of the inhibitors on chain reaction mechanisms, which dominate many important processes such as polymerizaiton, pyrolysis, oxidation, combustion, and gas explosion. The action of various inhibitors is detailed and their mechanisms investigated. A vast amount of experimental data, about the effects of inhibitors on various types of chain reactions, is presented along with its applications in scientific research. This text explores nonbranching reactions, including in-depth information on the inhibitors of free radical polymerisation and the mechanisms of antioxidants on oxidation processes. Auto-initiated chain reactions are also explored, with detailed descriptions of the kinetics, mechanisms and inhibition of the autoxidation of organic compounds. A special chapter deals with the synergism of antioxidant actions. The theory of chain-branching reactions is investigated, and a large amound of new experimental data concerning the use of chemical additives to regulate combustion is included. The theory of inhibition of chain combustion processes is also presented, including the mode of chain thermal explosion.

Presented in this dictionary is a concentrated listing of all main terms from various biological fields. It is the first dictionary of its kind, combining about 20,000 terms from both fundamental and applied biology, i.e. from commercial fields dealing with biological products. All branches of theoretical biology, methods, and laboratory techniques are covered. The following applied fields are represented: medicine, veterinary science, agriculture, forestry, hunting, fish culture, biotechnology, food industry, nature conservation, and environmental assessment. Special attention is paid to two-word terms with personal names, which make a special difficulty in translation. Numerous terms are translated for the first time. Scientist, translators, and specialists dealing with applied fields will find this dictionary invaluable.

Statistics is one of the significant and rapidly developing areas of modern science, followed by the rapid growth of statistical terminology. The present dictionary differs from existing dictionaries in the field by focusing on a broader concept of modern statistics as a comprehensive scientific domain. Topics covered include mathematical statistics and probability theory as a methodological basis, computational statistics and statistical software as an instrumental basis, and comprehensive applied components in economics, sociology, demography, medicine, natural sciences, and technology. The volume provides an extensive collection of terms in the fields of computer terminology connected with problems of data processing and statistical software, theory of random processes, statistical quality control, operations research, and some supplementary areas such as the terminology of Russian official statistics. The dictionary contains approximately 13,500 terminological units and includes bilingual name indexes representing about 1,000 names appearing in the dictionary. As it presents the largest English-Russian and Russian-English collection of statistical terminology available to date, this dictionary should be valuable to present-day readers, translators and other experts who work with English and Russian statistical literature.

When a translator of scientific and technical literature from Russian into English seeks the counterpart of some specialized term he turns to a dictionary or an original source in English. But terms are not the whole problem. They must be couched in the language of the particular branch of science or technology. A translation should be free of unidiomatic or amateurish passages. "The right word in the right place" is the translators' motto". The present dictionary is an attempt to supply word combinations and expressions that may be of help in achieving this aim. It is not a dictionary of terms or idioms, but a collection of typical examples from scientific and technical sources. The words that make up the combinations are usually common to a number of branches of science and technology. The remaining words of illustrative context are not so important since they are only meant as "fillers" to link the combination elements together. The user's attention should be focussed on the words in bold type. The system of arrangement is strictly alphabetical (hyphenated combinations are considered as one word), but there are many cross-references to assist the user. These are given merely for general guidance and the translator should not confine himself to the item referred to, but should examine carefully the entry in question and several adjacent entries. Synonymous words or expressions are given in brackets.
