"Ecological Models and Dynamics" uses mathematical models and computer simulations to study the dynamics of ecosystems, both natural and in response to disturbances. As an electronic 'pop-up' textbook, it features functional software programs deliberately placed to enhance learning. Links throughout the text jump to relevant parts of the book and to files in Microsoft Excel[registered], Mathcad[registered], Adobe Acrobat[registered], and LabVIEW . Students can run simulations and models in immediate proximity to the concepts being explained and can work through exercises, cross reference concepts, read data tables in adjoining windows, and navigate the text instantaneously. The text starts with basic concepts and from there builds in complexity.Instructors can integrate additional research and data into the interactive examples and narrative, thereby customizing the coverage to suit their course needs. Exercises are included at the end of each chapter and hyperlinked to relevant concepts in the text. The book is written for advanced undergraduates and early graduate students in ecology, evolutionary biology, chemistry, and engineering; the book can also be used for graduate students in biology and as a self-tutorial. Solutions to all exercises throughout the book will be provided to qualified adopters of the text. Entries to the book's subject index will be hyperlinked to relevant chapters. The textbook is accompanied by a booklet containing the prologue, introduction, conceptual table of contents, subject index, and instructions for Mathcad and navigation throughout the book.

With its pioneering hands-on tools and interactive visuals, Multimedia Fluid Mechanics has revolutionized the way that people learn and teach the subject. Developed from the landmark first edition CD, we've let this top-notch teaching tool breathe and grow onto a DVD with twice the coverage. It now includes all the material for a standard course in fluid mechanics, uses higher resolution graphics and has more flexible part-screen viewing options. It features new modules on Turbulence, Control Volumes, Interfacial Phenomena, and Similarity and Scaling. It also has nearly 1000 fluids videos, more than 20 virtual labs and simulations and dozens of new interactive demonstrations and animations. To handle all this new material, the DVD (useable on PCs and Mac OSX) has much better search and browse, a chapter-by-chapter media library, and an electronic table of contents. You can even create movie playlists to move smoothly from one video to the next.

"Differential Expressions: Key Experiments in Developmental Biology" is a CD-ROM that illustrates the lives and work of six influential scientists in the field. Each ten to 12 minute segment depicts a seminal experiment in developmental biology, combining extensive illustrations and original experimental video with a videotaped interview of the scientist who performed it. Hearing these biologists talk informally about their work, students come away with a sense of the warmth and humanity of these great names who, despite personal or historical circumstances, had the courage to see what others had not. The CD-ROM is augmented, through an internet connection, by additional information about each scientist.

A comprehensive interactive system for identifying all families, most subfamilies and selected tribes and genera of beetles from any part of the world. Anatomical, biogeographical and ecological information is included for each group, as well as images of representative specides and lists of published references. The database consists of a set of 945 taxa (family, subfamily, tribe or genus), each of which is coded for 322 characters with one to 13 character states (usually two or three). There are 6 additional text characters, which include short statements on geographic distribution, biology (habitat, feeding habits etc), nomenclature and classification. Also included are images of representative species with their accompanying specimen data and acknowledgements, and a short list of references pertaining to each group.
