Mayakovsky, the Russian and Soviet poet changed the context of Russian literature in the 2Oth century. He was one of the signitories to the first Russian Futurist manifesto, "A slap in the face of Public Taste". His controversial character often brought him into conflict with the authorities after the revolution despite his commitment to its goals. His suicide to this day is a subject of dispute.
