The filmmaker goes to Egypt, his country of origin, to film a documentary on the miraculous apparition of the Holy Virgin within the Coptic community of a small village outside of Cairo. Sounds simple enough. But when family, friends and events start changing his plans, Namir must rethink his original concept and change the tone and style to a film-within-a-film where he is both director and subject. Against the wishes of his mother, played by the filmmaker's real mother, he decides to actually stage an apparition of the Virgin Mary and starts mixing documentary, autobiography and fiction to hilarious effects.

On September 25, 1983, Gladys Quiroga de Motta had a vision of the Virgin Mary near the steel town of San Nicolàs, Argentina. Over the course of several months, Ms. Motta said that the Virgin Mary had repeatedly appeared to her. Prior to Ms. Motta revelation that the Virgin Mary had appeared to her, the town of San Nicolàs was a very poor town due to the closing of the steel mill. However, after the reported sightings of the Virgin Mary, the town was able to capitalize on the notoriety and became a destination for the faithful, and the tourist.
