Produced during the mid-seventies, this film extolls the virtues of the new Cuban approach to "junior high" (grades 7-10) education in rural areas. This consists of boarding schools which are tightly controlled by mandatory homework, regular peer review, criticism assemblies and parental review. The students are also expected to work 3 hours daily during the week in the rural countryside to help finance universal Cuban education. To address a perennial shortage of teachers, upperclassmen are recruited to serve as teaching assistants and later as teachers. Includes footage of Fidel Castro interacting with students in a variety of situations
