This program tells the story of the American Indian occupation of Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay beginning in 1969. Many of the former participants are interviewed. It also explores the impact of the occupation on Native Americans nationwide. Out of Alcatraz came the "Red Power" movement of the 1970s, which has been called the lost chapter of the Civil Rights era, and more than 70 other Indian occupations of Federal facilities.
