Joanna Mills is a tough young woman who is determined to learn the truth behind the increasingly terrifying supernatural visions that have been haunting her. As a sales representative for a trucking company, Joanna has made a successful career for herself. But her private life has been difficult. She is estranged from her father, is being stalked by an obsessed ex-boyfriend, and fears that she is losing control. She sees and feels the brutal murder of a young woman she's never met. The murderer appears to be making Joanna his next target. Determined to fight back, Joanna is guided by her nightmares to the murdered woman's hometown.

Set in 1940s Los Angeles. Two police officers, Bucky Bleichert and his partner, Lee Blanchard, investigate the death of Elizabeth Short - also known as The Black Dahlia, a young woman who is found brutally murdered. With a corpse so mutilated, the photos are kept from the public. Bucky soon realizes that his girlfriend had ties to the deceased, and soon after that, he begins uncovering corruption and conspiracy within the police departmen. The case becomes an obsession for the two men and their lives begin to unravel.
