The California Health Interview Survey (CHIS) provides public health, health insurance, demographic, and socioeconomic data for California's diverse population. Results on a variety of health topics are produced for the entire state and counties. The AskCHIS Neighborhood Edition or AskCHIS NE©, data can be downloaded or analyzed and visualized online at the zip code, city, county, legislative district. CHIS is a random-dial telephone survey conducted on a continuous basis and covers a wide range of health topics. CHIS gives a detailed picture of the health and health care needs of California's large and diverse population. CHIS began in 2001 and was issued biennially. Starting in 2011, CHIS transitioned from a biennial survey model to a continuous survey model, which enables a more frequent (annual) release of data.
