The paper deals with an incremental method for solving the equilibrium conditions in nonlinear elasticity which was introduced by H. Beckert in 1975. Here, the alteration rate of some stress tensor is prescribed by supplementary stresses. This yields an expression for a locally defined elastic energy and the total energy can be minimized. Hence, the considered method is in the sense of minimizing movements. The authors analyze some of its properties, derive a local existence result in a simplified way, and prove the convergence of an approximation scheme.

This book reviews the present state of knowledge of the anomalous magnetic moment a=(g-2)/2 of the muon. The muon anomalous magnetic moment amy is one of the most precisely measured quantities in elementary particle physics and provides one of the most stringent tests of relativistic quantum field theory as a fundamental theoretical framework. It allows for an extremely precise check of the standard model of elementary particles and of its limitations. Recent experiments at the Brookhaven National Laboratory now reach the unbelievable precision of 0.5 parts per million, improving the accuracy of previous g-2 experiments at CERN by a factor of 14. A major part of the book is devoted to the theory of the anomalous magnetic moment and to estimates of the theoretical uncertainties. Quantum electrodynamics and electroweak and hadronic effects are reviewed. Since non-perturbative hadronic effects play a key role for the precision test, their evaluation is described in detail. After the overview of theory, the experimental achievements are surveyed, and comparisons with theory are discussed. Possible explanations for the observed deviation are presented. Heterostructures consist of combinations of different materials, which are in contact through at least one interface. Magnetic heterostructures combine different physical properties which do not exist in nature for example, semiconductors/ferromagnets, superconductors/ferromagnets, or ferromagnets/antiferromagnets. These combinations display new physical properties different from any single one of them. Interlayer exchange coupling, exchange bias, proximity effects, giant magneto-resistance, tunneling magneto-resistance, spin spininjection and spintransport are examples for new physical phenomena, which relay on the combination of various metal, semiconductor, and oxide layers. The physical behaviour of thin films often remarkably deviates from that of the corresponding bulk material. The intent of this book is to report on the electrical, optical, and structural properties of silver and gold films in dependence on substrate material, annealing treatment, and gas adsorption.
