This documentary reflects on what it means to be a child in our contemporary world, starting from the premise that not every child is allowed to enjoy childhood equally. The film begins by showing how the concept of childhood as innocence developed in the 16th and 17th centuries as a result of the spread of humanist ideas. The film then shows how, in the interior of Brazil's northeastern region, some children still work on sugarcane plantations and in quarries for food or a few cents. At the same time, in large urban areas with shopping malls and upper-class neighborhoods, childhood is marked by exhausting routines that prepare children for a competitive adult life.

It evokes a clear pictures of the times - as Welles makes IT'S ALL TRUE a cultural project meant to strengthen ties between American allies during wartime. It also demonstrates Welles' impact on those times and Brazilian society through testimonies of friends and collaborators including Grande Othelo, Carmen Miranda, Edmar Morel, Paula Lima, H.G. Wells, Robert Wise, Richard Wilson and others. -- LAVA
