These maps were microfilmed by the Bureau of the Census in the 1950's. Due to the nature and quality of the original maps, the reproductions on this microfilm varies [sic] greatly. Legibility may be poor. Each reel begins with the pamphlet "Enumeration district maps for the twelfth through sixteenth censuses of the United States, 1900-1940" compiled by Claire Prechtel-Kluskens in 2003. "The base maps were obtained from a variety of sources that include postal route maps, General Land Office maps, soil survey maps, and maps produced by city, county, and state government offices as well as commercial printers"--P. 1 of pamphlet.
