Editio princeps of the Greek text of Aristophanes. Greek title romanized. Imprint from colophon. Edited by Marcus Musurus and Aldo Manuzio. The Lysistrata and Thesmophoriazusae, forming the 10th and 11th comedies, were omitted from this edition, not being printed until the year 1515 at Florence. Aldus remarks in his preface: "decimam [fabulam] Lysistraten ideo praetermisimus, quia uix dimidiata haberi a nobis potuit." Signatures: pi⁸, [alpha-gamma]⁸ [delta]¹⁰ [epsilon-xi]⁸ [omicron]¹⁰ [pi-upsilon]⁸ [phi]⁶ [chi-omega, Alpha-Epsilon]⁸ [Zeta]⁶ [Eta-Lambda]⁸ [Mu]⁴ [Nu-Omicron]⁸ [Pi]¹⁰ [Rho-Sigma]⁸ [Tau]⁶. Leaves [90] and [348] blank. Printed with text surrounded on two sides by Musurus' scholia, 41 lines and headline per page. Woodcut capitals and head-pieces in body of text; capital spaces with guide letters in preliminaries. Aldus' first and second Greek font; preface Roman.
